The HSSA (Home school Skate
Academy) is every Tuesday before our home school skate. Yes, we
are called the "Homeschool" Skate Academy, and we are primarily
homeschoolers, but our skate school is open to everyone.. not just
homeschoolers. You can join us in the summer if you like, or
if you have a small child that is not in school yet and you want to take
lessons during the day you are more than welcome to join us. We have
adult classes also.
If you have children in your family who don't want to be apart of the HSSA, they can come and skate on practice ice during
lessons and then stay for the session. You will have to pay for any
sibling or friend that is not a part of the HSSA who wants to skate the
session. [$5 per person]
The HSSA sessions
run 8 weeks long. At the end of each session, our students can invite a friend to skate for
FREE! Each student receives their certificate
of progress.
Each child will receive a USFSA membership
card, a skill book and will also receive progress reports and report
cards throughout the session. You will also receive a free 10 punch pass
card to skate 10 sessions for free in the Cary or Garner rinks. [Card does not include skate rental]

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to buy skates?
Nope! We'll provide skates for you. But if
you are interested, we have a pro shop and we can help you purchase a
pair for your child.
How old does my child have to be to start?
They can start at the age of three, as long as they can stand on
the ice and they feel comfortable being away from mom or dad . If they
do not, you can sign up for our "Parent and Tot" class so they can
feel comfortable.
Can I be refunded if my child does not like
the class?
Unfortunately, no. If you're not sure if your child would
like the HSSA, what we recommend is
try our "evaluation" class. You can try the level/class once, and if
your child doesn't like it, you do not have to pay. If your child does
like it, then you can pay for the whole session.
What if my child cannot stand up on the ice?
They would have to know how to stand on the ice before we start
any lessons. They also have to feel comfortable being away from mom and
dad. For our Snowplow Sam Class, we teach them how to move on the
ice such as forward skating and stopping. If you are not sure if
your child will like the lessons, have them come out on the 2nd Tuesday
of the month for our free lessons during our home school skates. Of course, that lesson will not be as detailed, but it will give you an
idea if they will like skating, before you spend money that can't be
refunded.
What if it is in the middle of the session,
can I still sign up?
We will pro-rate your cost up to the 3rd lesson into
the session. We can't go any further because it would not be fair
to those who learned certain elements to wait for someone to catch up.
This only applies if enrollment has not been closed due to large
class sizes.
What if I enroll my child and then they are
sick.. Are there makeup times?
Unfortunately, we can't make up any classes due to the fact that
we only have 1 day a week that the Homeschoolers and coaches meet.
However, we will work with you. If you miss one day, you may be
able to attend 2 classes the next week. It all depends on the
class availability. If
your child is sick for long period of time, we will definitely
work with you and will evaluate each circumstance accordingly. Also, if
your child is enrolled in the next session, we may be able to pro-rate that cost.
